Sustainable Reality 2024 will feature a series of talks by industry leaders who are at the forefront of HPC and AI development. These sessions are designed not only to inform but to inspire actionable insights that attendees can bring back to their own organisations. Here’s a preview of some of the distinguished speakers who will share their expertise:
Emma Barnes – As the Head of Research and Faculty IT at the University of York, Emma has been pivotal in building the university’s research IT infrastructure, including the development of the Research Software Engineering group and the Viking cluster. Her work emphasises sustainability and innovation in HPC.
Zara Birch – With extensive experience in communications across various sectors, Zara recently joined Queen’s University as part of their NI-HPC team. She is passionate about highlighting the human side of HPC and is leading the establishment of a Women in HPC chapter in Ireland.
Marcel van Drunen – As the Director of HPC & AI Technical Presales and Partnerships at Borealis Data Center, Marcel is a well-connected expert in the HPC and AI industry. He plays a key role in designing sustainable systems and fostering partnerships that drive innovation.
Dr. Marta Camps Santasmasas – A lecturer at the University of Salford with a Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering, Marta specialises in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). She is a strong advocate for collaborative software development and is involved in several initiatives promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in the field.
Karen Lewis – As the Head of HR at the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG), Karen has made significant contributions to neurodiversity and women in tech initiatives. Her empathetic approach to HR has led to the development of numerous programs supporting career growth and inclusivity.
Paul Calleja – A history maker for UK HPC, Dr. Calleja’s work in supercomputing has spanned both industry and academia. Currently, he serves as Director of the Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab and of Research Computing Services at the University of Cambridge.
