CIUK 2023: Alces Flight blasts off with the Student Cluster Challenge

Team Isambards from the University of Bristol has set the pace, leading a tight pack of 13 teams after an explosive first week of tasks

Now in its fourth year, the CIUK Student Cluster Challenge roared back with double the teams, making it the biggest grouping to date. The starting line was buzzing with energy as 13 teams geared up for eight weeks of intense challenges, starting with our very own Alces Flight creation.

This year, Alces focused the students on building and benchmarking HPC clusters using private cloud technology and our cutting-edge toolsets. Teams had a mere three hours to craft their dream cluster and conquer benchmarks (with a tricky red herring thrown in for good measure!) before time ran out. And here’s the twist — we asked these brilliant minds to showcase their results in video format, unleashing a wave of creative chaos that left us in awe.

We’re thrilled by the students’ incredible efforts, fueling the growth of this epic challenge. Every single team not only crossed the finish line but did so in style, some even with a spectacular backing soundtrack!

Check out highlight reel, featuring the best moments from the student videos (and a sneak peek from our results video we sent their way). Get ready, Manchester — We’ll see you at the finish line in December!

Wait, there’s more...
