Empowering the Future: Alces Flight at CIUK 2024

CIUK 2024  was full of exciting activities for the Alces Flight team. From supporting students in the largest (to date) Student Cluster Challenge hosted at CIUK to introducing our innovative Supercomputing by Subscription service, this event showcased how Alces is making HPC and AI more accessible.

Student Cluster Competition

This year, Alces had the opportunity of supporting the future of the HPC community through the Student Cluster Competition. We took the challenge beyond just technical skills, focusing on teamwork, communication, leadership, and time management. Over 80 students from more than 14 universities competed, testing their knowledge of HPC and AI through three key challenges: engaging with vendors, solving HPC quiz and reflecting on their experience. It was inspiring to witness the next generation of talent as they embraced these challenges.

Women in HPC Networking Breakfast

Alces Flight sponsored and hosted the third annual Women in HPC networking breakfast on the 6th December. This event marked the grand finale of our Move the Needle project, focusing on goal setting in equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and sustainability. Over 70 attendees gathered for a morning of networking, inspiration, and though-provoking conversations.

The breakfast featured three speakers from esteemed institutions who shared their personal journeys and experiences with the Move The Needle project. They spoke about skills development, mentoring, recruitment, and more highlighting how their experiences could inspire others to continue pushing for change in HPC and AI sectors.

Moose Madness Raffle: Alces Flight Booth

The Alces Flight booth was buzzing with activity throughout the conference, and our Moose Madness Raffle was a big hit! Attendees stopped by to learn more about our platform, watch demos, and try their luck at winning some great prizes, including plush moose, stickers and mugs.

It was a fantastic way to engage with conference attendees and add a bit of fun to the event while showcasing our latest innovations.

CIUK 2024 was an incredible opportunity for the Alces Flight team to connect with the HPC community, showcase our innovations and support the growth of emerging talent. Whether through simplifying the complexities of supercomputing, adding fun with our Moose Madness raffle, or empowering diverse voices in the industry, we’re excited to continue playing a role in shaping the future of advanced computing.
